INDEPENDENT SCHOOL LEAGUE: A PREMIER ATHLETICS CONFERENCE FOR BOSTON-AREA PRIVATE SCHOOLS

The Independent School League is an interscholastic athletic conference founded in 1948 whose membership is made up of a number of leading New England prep schools, mainly in the Boston area. ISL members (as the league is more commonly known) comprise some of the nation’s most famous and prestigious schools who collaborate and compete academically and athletically. The league operates strict rules regarding athletic scholarships and academic performance whilst also prohibiting the participation of postgraduate students. As such, it has often been referred to as the Ivy League of high schools (a reference enjoyed by a select few other school sports leagues – mostly within NEPSAC).
