THE CONSORTIUM: A NETWORK OF GRADUATE BUSINESS SCHOOLS ENABLING GREATER DIVERSITY IN AMERICA’S BOARDROOMS

The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management (“The Consortium” or, occasionally, “CGSM”) is an association of top-ranked American graduate business schools that offer MBA programmes. The primary focus of The Consortium is to support opportunities for persons of minority backgrounds towards studying for an MBA at a member school. To this end, The Consortium and its member schools work with a number of external stakeholders to raise funds towards scholarship initiatives and collaborate on common approaches to increasing diversity and representation at their respective business schools.

ABOUT

The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management was founded in 1966 and has expanded to include many of the most selective and prestigious business schools in the United States. Its founding members include the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis and the Wisconsin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California and the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester joined shortly thereafter, followed by the Kenan-Flagler Business School at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, the Stern School of Business at New York University, the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, the Haas School of Business at University of California, Berkeley, the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, the Goizueta Business School at Emory University, the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University, the Yale School of Management at Yale University, the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, the Anderson School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles, McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University, the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington, Columbia Business School at Columbia University, Stanford Graduate School of Business at Stanford University and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

The member institutions represent some of the best in the world, with a mix of Ivy League colleges and their peers (the so-called Little Ivies and Public Ivies). All feature highly in national and international rankings with applications far exceeding places offered.

The Consortium deploys its resources towards making sure that they its supported scholars are given every opportunity to succeed and to graduate with an MBA from some of the hardest programmes in the world. In this respect, since its foundation, more than half a billion US dollars has been disbursed on scholarship funding. The Consortium also works to ensure that their candidates are able to network with business stakeholders and potential employers for life post-graduation. Indeed, more than 50% of students who are offered scholarships by The Consortium find employment with a partner enterprise. Moreover, through The Consortium and its various induction, orienteering and networking events, students are able to join a wider network of alumni and current students at these elite institutions.
