WOODLANDS ACADEMY

Woodlands Academy is a small, girls-only boarding school nestled in a grand Georgian country home in the Wicklow mountains, just south of Dublin city. The school is a part of the Oak International Academies network of boarding schools founded in the Regnum Christi Catholic tradition. It has a brother school located nearby that caters to boys, Dublin Oak Academy. These schools attract an international student body, primarily from Spanish speaking countries, with Spanish education traditions and customs dominating school life.

Woodlands Academy is all-boarding for girls between the ages of 11 and 16. It does not offer senior secondary education. The school is a very popular destination for families seeking to ensure that their children are educated in an English-speaking environment but with a strong connection to Spanish or Hispanic culture. Ireland has long-been an attractive option for language students, particularly from Roman Catholic countries, and the Oak International Academies have been established to build upon and enhance this heritage.

The school offers the Junior Certificate under the Irish education system with the exception of Irish language studies for which most pupils will have been awarded an exemption from studying. Faith-based studies are an integral part of the curriculum at Woodlands.

Woodlands Academy recognises the international nature of its student body and works extremely hard to ensure that boarders have access to a wide range of amenities and facilities and that regular excursions and immersive experiences feature in student life. The school is keen to involve pupils in as much of Irish life and culture as is possible to complement the international experience. The school also manages a summer camp scheme that offers a similar experience.

Woodlands Academy offers a broad range of clubs and societies to engage those children within its charge but offers a limited sporting programme as compared to other Irish boarding schools. Events are regularly held in conjunction with Dublin Oak Academy.
