WESTERN CONNECTICUT BOARDING SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION (WCBS): PRESERVING THE BOARDING SCHOOL TRADITION IN THE CONSTITUTION STATE

The Western Connecticut Boarding Schools Association (WCBS) is a cooperative network of elite schools who are dotted around the beautiful, rural Connecticut/New York border region. The member schools share a geographic proximity and cultural ethos. All of them offer excellent boarding programmes, some of which are considered to be amongst the best in the United States, if not the world.

ABOUT

The association, like many other regional boarding school bodies, exists primarily to market Western Connecticut as a preferred destination for prospective boarders. The Western Connecticut Boarding Schools Association also works to promote the member schools as top choices for families seeking the best education for their children.

The WCBS encourages cooperation and knowledge sharing amongst its member schools to support the development of best practice approaches to boarding school management. The secretariat convenes regular training and networking events for the management and faculty of its member schools, including hosting an annual conference at one of the member schools’ campuses. Events incorporating the respective student bodies are also organised by the WCBS, including competition between the member schools.

Western Connecticut Boarding Schools include a range of institutions offering all-through education, college-preparatory high school only or junior boarding options and a mix of various faith-based schools and differing educational pedagogies. Pupils may board at a WCBS school from an early age and find a place to reside whilst they study all the way through to postgraduate year programmes should they wish to.

The member schools are all accredited member of the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS). Many are also members of other specialist boarding school bodies such as the Junior Boarding School Association (JBSA) or the Small Boarding School Association (SBSA).
