ASSOCIATED COLLEGES OF THE MIDWEST: THE MOST-CELEBRATED LIBERAL ARTS COLLEGES OF THE MIDWEST
The Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) is a consortium of nationally-recognised, highly-selective, private small liberal arts colleges dotted around the American Midwestern states. The schools work closely with one another to advance the case for selective liberal arts colleges, to support the delivery of their top-ranked degree programmes and to foster collaboration and synergies between member colleges.
ABOUT
The consortium was founded in 1958 bringing together fourteen of the most renowned and celebrated liberal arts colleges in the country, many of which are considered amongst the so-called “Little Ivies” (colleges considered to be peer school alternatives to the famous Ivy League universities).
The member institutions include some of the nation’s oldest colleges, many of whom have current or historical ties to the various religious communities that helped shape early American history and the migration west from the original thirteen colonies. Furthermore, these schools have shared close relationships with one another and their peers in the South, East and West of the country. The majority of the ACM member schools are also members of the Annapolis Group alongside various other prestigious colleges from across the country. Many are also members of similar groups, including the Oberlin Group, the Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges (CLAC), the Selective Liberal Arts Consortium (SLAC) or the Small College Consortium (SCC). All of the member colleges are accredited by their respective regional and programme accrediting bodies.
The Associated Colleges of the Midwest is an essential aspect of life at its member colleges with various common schemes and initiatives being championed and a broad range of training and networking events being scheduled. ACM students and faculty alike are able to work closely with their peers at their fellow schools, including common research projects, overseas aid-based efforts, camps, excursions and visits and excellent study-abroad opportunities.
The ACM secretariat also supports the colleges with marketing and promotion efforts, strategic management and recruitment needs, diversity and inclusion programmes and administrative functions. As such, the member schools are able to harness efficiencies from pooling together some of their resources and experience to ensure that they are competitive against better-endowed peers and research-intensive universities.
