ASSOCIATED SCHOOLS OF NEW SOUTH WALES (CAS): A SMALL CONFERENCE OF PREMIER PRIVATE SCHOOLS IN THE PREMIER STATE

The Associated Schools of New South Wales was established in 1929 as the Committee of Associated Schools (CAS) (and often referred to as the Combined Associated Schools) to formalise relationships between a select group of the leading independent schools in the state. The six schools that comprise the membership of CAS share a common understanding with respect to interscholastic competition, educational philosophy and ethos.

ABOUT

The six schools: Barker; Cranbrook; Knox; St Aloysius’; Trinity and Waverley have long competed and cooperated with one another as peer schools, all of whom sharing a history as some of the province’s oldest schools. In addition, all schools maintain a proud faith-based ethos in the Anglo-Catholic tradition.

The association was founded at the instigation of Knox Grammar School, establishing, primarily, a sporting competition between the participating schools. In the years since, the association has grown to encompass competition in a wider array of activities including music, cadets and academic competition. More recently, the schools have also cooperated closely with respect to ecumenical matters.

The schools adhere to a strict code of conduct regarding sporting and co-curricular competition with restrictions on participant age and athletic recruitment in order to ensure a fair and level playing field. The member schools are all members of the Association of Independent Schools of New South Wales and are accredited private (independent) schools. Outside of the CAS they regularly compete with their peers in the Athletic Association of the Great Public Schools (GPS).
