THE HILL SCHOOLS: THE BEST OF THE BRONX PRIVATE SCHOOLS

The Hill Schools are a group of schools located north of New York City in the affluent Western suburbs of The Bronx. The moniker is an unofficial name used to distinguish those elite day schools in Fieldston, Hudson Hill and Riverdale that have attained reputations as being amongst the most selective and prestigious in the country.

ABOUT

The leafy upscale neighbourhoods in which the schools themselves are located are sometimes referred to as “The Hills” due to their village atmospheres and hilly topography – differentiating the areas from much of New York City and the surrounding suburbs. As such, these areas have long-been home to some of the wealthiest enclaves of New York, attracting upper class denizens from the city.

A number of schools have been established over the years which have sought to attract the Knickerbocker progeny of wealthy Manhattanites and New Yorks’ country club class in the Northern suburbs. Few have done so to the extent and pedigree of the so-called Hill schools which includes Ethical Culture Fieldston (AKA Fieldston); Horace Mann; and Riverdale Country School.

The three schools are extremely academically rigorous offering world-class academic and athletic programs. They are extremely selective and heavily oversubscribed. The Hill Schools are all members of the Guild of Independent Schools of New York City, the Parents League and are associated with New York Interschool. In addition, the schools are accredited members of a host of national and international associations and awarding bodies that are considered to be amongst the best in the world.
