MID-ATLANTIC PREP LEAGUE: AN ELITE PREP SCHOOL CONFERENCE IN NEW JERSEY AND PENNSYLVANIA

The Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) is a small sports conference comprised of the top-tier of college-preparatory boarding schools in the mid-Atlantic states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The league’s members compete in a number of inter-varsity sports and adhere to strict criteria regarding student-athlete eligibility, recruitment and programme governance. The member school are amongst the most prestigious schools in North America, if not globally and are extremely competitive academically and athletically, operating highly selective admissions policies.

ABOUT

Founded in 1999, the MAPL has bred a number of pro-athletes, particularly in basketball, baseball and football. Other high-profile sports in which members compete against one another include crew and squash.

Mid-Atlantic Prep League members agree to limit the number of postgraduate age athletes on varsity teams/programmes and to ensure that high academic standards and rigour are maintained in priority to athletic prowess. Thus, varsity athletes must also be capable of keeping up with the high performance of the wider student body. As with similar leagues, the highest accolades are bestowed upon the school which has demonstrated the greatest effort, sportsmanship and approach in the season as voted by the other member schools. For the MAPL this is The Headmasters’ Cup.

The member schools are well-known as feeder schools to the best colleges and universities in the country, with many of their athletes representing college teams in NCAA-endorsed competition before entering professional or semi-professional sports upon graduation.
