Sarah Porter established her eponymous school in 1843 in order to provide a modern, scientific education to young women alongside the classical education that had come to epitomise university preparatory schools in the western world. Porter’s maintains that ethos today, developing a holistic approach to education, employing the Harkness Method, and athletics in order to build the character expected of a young woman in society and to prepare for entry to the top universities. Miss Porter’s School competes in the Founders League.
