Avenues was founded in New York City in 2012 carrying the moniker: “The World School” by a select group of renowned educators and innovators, which included Benno Schmidt, Jr., President of Yale University and Chris Whittle who would later establish his eponymous school (Whittle School & Studios). From the outset, the school would operate as a for-profit institution that would avail of every technology and innovative methodology at its disposal to become educational change-makers. The school’s very mission is to be at the vanguard of a paradigm shift in global education. The school aims to prepare pupils for the challenges of an increasingly globalised and technologically driven world in addition to meeting the fundamentals of a college-preparatory curriculum, based on a design by Phillips Exeter Academy, arguably the most prestigious school in the United States. The Private Schools Athletic Association (PSAA) is an interscholastic athletics conference whose members are amongst the leading independent private and prep schools in New York State, centred around New York City. The conference was formally established in 1986 and offers a range of varsity sports. Many PSAA schools are members or associates of the prestigious New York Interschool consortium and also compete in the Athletic Conference of Independent Schools.

Originally an all-boys grammar school in the classic Latin tradition, Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School (more commonly known as Columbia Prep or CGPS) was attached to Columbia University until 1864. The school turned out young gentleman for admission to the Ivy League institution until it’s merger with The Leonard School for Girls in 1956.
