The Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students is better known by the acronym AEGIS – a reference to the Greek word for a protective shield/talisman object.

Founded in 1994, the Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students has grown to become the standard bearer for guardianship of international pupils working with schools and colleges to maintain and uplift standards in the United Kingdom. Collectively, AEGIS and its member institutions work to improve the standing of UK schools and colleges as a destination of choice for international students in an increasingly competitive global marketplace.

Today, AEGIS has several hundred members, predominantly from the independent school and sixth-form colleges sector – many of which are household names internationally. Nearly all AEGIS members offer boarding or some form of residential provision (including homestay arrangements). The organisation also works with guardianship agents and advisory services as a resource and policy developer. AEGIS members are also able to avail of a range of administrative support services, knowledge libraries, expert resources and, above-all continuous professional development training.

That British schools have remained at the top of the list for many international pupils seeking a traditional public school education with top-tier academics and cutting-edge facilities is a testament to the work of organisations like AEGIS and the member schools that the association is comprised of.
