ABOUT

Founded in 1878 as The Dame School in south east London, the school has undergone a number of name changes and location changes (including as Lindisfarne School) before assuming it’s current name (which is also the school’s current location). Abberley Hall is the typical English prep school – offering a small and intimate environment to nurture the children of gentlemen, military officers and landed families amongst others. As such the school may be considered as one of the major British prep schools.

The nursery and pre-prep divisions admit a variety of local pupils with the preparatory school admitting children from across the UK and overseas from the ages of 8 – 13 as boarders or day attendees or flexible variations thereof. Entrance os subject to observation assessments as is standard for prep schools. The school operates a classic House system which includes: Owls, Pewitts, Wood Pigeons and Cuckoos – birds which may be found on the school’s sprawling countryside campus.

The school offers a range of activities and sports from forest school programs to sailing and riding.

Abberley Hall is a member of the prestigious Oxford Group of boarding preparatory schools, the Association of Governing Bodies of Independent Schools, the Boarding Schools Association, the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools, the Independent Schools’ Bursars Association and the Independent Schools Council.
