AVENUES: THE WORLD SCHOOL

Avenues was founded in New York City in 2012 carrying the moniker: “The World School” by a select group of renowned educators and innovators, which included Benno Schmidt, Jr., President of Yale University and Chris Whittle who would later establish his eponymous school (Whittle School & Studios). From the outset, the school would operate as a for-profit institution that would avail of every technology and innovative methodology at its disposal to become educational change-makers. The school’s very mission is to be at the vanguard of a paradigm shift in global education. The school aims to prepare pupils for the challenges of an increasingly globalised and technologically driven world in addition to meeting the fundamentals of a college-preparatory curriculum, based on a design by Phillips Exeter Academy, arguably the most prestigious school in the United States. The school takes great pride in the calibre of its academic staff, many of whom are recruited from universities and colleges.

As a globally focused school, Avenues has opened additional campuses in São Paulo, Brazil and Shenzhen, China in 2018. These schools offer an all-through, international education. Avenues opened another new campus in Silicon Valley in 2022 which would also be home to their online school offering. The Silicon Valley branch has since become Aeon School. Avenues is currently exploring establishing new campuses in Shanghai and Miami with further plans to open additional campuses across Asia, Europe and North America in the coming years. Avenues was taken over by the global education operator, Nord Anglia, in 2023 but remains an independent brand and structure. The Chinese enterprise (Avenues Shenzhen) was not included in this takeover and operates independently, albeit under the same branding.

Avenues operates a little differently to other international school networks or branched schools in that a pupil registered to one campus is automatically registered to all and is able to participate or attend either (with the exception of its separate Chinese enterprise due to local restrictions). Furthermore, pupils and faculty alike are strongly encouraged to move between the campuses in order to enhance their experience. As such, the school operates as one holistic entity.
