Believed to have been founded in 1284 under the auspices of St. Meugan’s Church, Ruthin was re-founded by Royal Charter of Queen Elizabeth I in 1595 and came to be a collegiate institute of St. Peter’s Church in Ruthin. In 1893 the school came to occupy its current site. The school is one of the oldest in the British Isles. The school is an independent school in the Public School tradition which houses both boarding and day students and is mixed.
